There is a difference between
a. choosing not to vote for "Billary" because she's a woman, and
b. choosing not to vote for "Billary" because you can't stand the way she talks.
The first is "sexist" and the second is not!
Similarly,
You can
a. vote against Obama because he's "non-white," or
b. vote against Obama because he's an "elitist."
The first is "racist" and the second is not!
We can argue whether the latter form of reasoning is any better then the former, but the point is that they are DIFFERENT!

The Parties [sic] Over!
It seems pretty clear to me (especially after Kentucky and Oregon):
1. The Democrats: The party of Jefferson, the oldest political party in the world, has ceased to exist. Obama and Hillary have proved this beyond any reasonable doubt. Most of the major ideas of their respective coalitions are anathema to each other. What could possibly unite them? Even their opposition to Bush can't do that -- everybody is in opposition to Bush.
2. The Republicans: The party of Lincoln, the party formed to save the Union and end slavery, has ceased to exist. McCain and Huckabee have proved this beyond any reasonable doubt. Most of the major ideas of their respective coalitions are anathema to each other. What could possibly unite them? Even their opposition to "Liberalism" can't do that -- everybody is in opposition to what they call "Liberalism."
What's next?
Good question -- glad you asked
"Times, They Are A Changin'" [Robert Zimmerman from Hibbing, MN]
Let's see...
1. From the Democrats will come "The Elitists" and "The Racists" and "Uber Feminists."
2. From the Republicans will come "The Idiots" and "The Fundies" [Oops...they're the same, right?] and "The Plutocrats" and "The Racists" [Wait, that's taken...] Hmmmm....
Only kidding.....hahahhah...not!
Actually, I have no idea....but "Change is Gonna Come"! [Sam Cooke]
And "Cha-cha-cha-Changes"

Racism v. Sexism
[I posted this on someone else's blog]
As someone noted a while ago in this campaign, "race is America's 'Original Sin.'" It's an intrinsic element of our Constitution and the Amendments. It's the essence of American history from the Colonies, the "3/5" clause, the Civil War, Reconstruction, Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Board, Segregation, the Civil Rights Movement…and now the Democaratic Primary of 2008.
Sure, sexism exists and is intolerable, but racism is an infinitely more serious problem. Unless we resolve it, the "United" States will remain a chimera.
It was in response to the blogger's commentary on The Clintons' recent series of observations re: Obama's ability "to appeal to WHITE voters"!

Pollsters and Race
The pollsters have been consistently missing something -- maybe they're losing sight of the forest as the saying goes. They ask voters whether the Economy or Iraq or something else will be the determining issue for them when voting. But they ignore the so-called "800 pound gorilla in the room."
RACE!!
This has always been the biggest issue in American political life! It's enshrined in the Constitution as well as in the Amendments. From Slavery through Civil War through Segregation through Civil Rights there has been no bigger dilemma.
Maybe...just maybe...this electoral year there will be some movement toward dealing with this once and for all.
Maybe.
Oh....I'm a white, highly educated, older, independent male voter...who is very "bitter" about this omission in our national self-understanding.

"'D.C. Madam’ Is Found Dead, Apparently in a Suicide"
I think the word "apparently" in the NY Times headline, which I've quoted as the title of this bit, should be emphasized.
1. She apparently had plans for future activities.
2. She had not yet been sentenced.
3. There would be appeals to follow any severe sentence.
4. Her "little black book" contained lots of influential and powerful names -- as yet not revealed.
Hmmmm....Where is CSI and Law & Order when we "really" need them?!
Oh...her crime?? Heading a prostitution ring??? Nahhhh....was it "income tax evasion" -- the way they got Al Capone? Nahhhh. It was for money laundering and using the mail for illegal purposes: "Crimes" that would not be "crimes" IF PROSTITUTION WERE LEGAL!
Hey....isn't it ironic that a person can "give sex away" but can't "sell it"!!
Where's the "Free Market" when we really need it??
